What suggestions do you hav for cars for me?

It isn't my first option, but I think I need one, what with aging parents and an in-law in a neighbouring town.

I'm looking for a good used one, perhaps around 6 - 8 years old, very good on gas, and I'd love a RED car, lol.

Any cars to make sure I avoid?

I'd stuck with Toyotas the past few times, but I'm open to other options.

Yikes! I buy used cars, but it's a case by case basis. It's more about how well it is currently running, not so much which makes and models are good.
I had a Ford Taurus that lasted more than 20 years. Not that I had it that long. I drove it for at least 10 years, though.
I paid $12,000 for it. I think I got my money's worth.
That's about the best I can do in terms of recommendations. I never have been much of a motor head.
You might want to check around on car sites. Like maybe Car Soup if it's still around. They may have some user comments regarding likes and dislikes. You may be able to get a consensus of opinions.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Similar in that it would be small, fuel efficient, used, Ha! and cheap.
I did tell my mechanic to keep an eye peeled and call me if he ran across one. That was many moons ago... No calls.

Will you get one similar to your last car? ...

Bet you're good at bartering, though, whether or not you enjoy the process.

I'm not sure yet. My concern is when I need building materials to do work on the house. I don't think a cab driver would put up with that.
If I do look for one, like you, I'll be in the market for an older one. It's not something I'm looking forward to.

Ah! So you may be in the market for a car too?

If so, let me know how the hunt progresses.

My parents have THREE cars, ha!!

One permanently in Florida and two here Up North.
I've been driving 2001 Toyota Camry-- still going strong!

They're fine with that until they return in late April, so I need to get looking seriously soon.

But I've given some of that money away to our girls, for a trip to Europe for the one, and soon some to the other to help her purchase her own car so she can find a placement with her job training.

That does leave enough to buy an older car, maybe a ten year old car or so.

Their "Old Car"? Meaning, they have another? Maybe they'd consider selling that old one to you.
I still don't know what I want to do about my car situation either. I'll figure out something.... Eventually.

Thanks, K--; I'm using my parents' old car right now while they're in Fla., but will have to look in earnest soon.

I misstated the price. $1,200 is all I paid. Well, yes, there was some maintenance. But nothing really all that out of the ordinary. Of course, I'd get irritated at the time of a breakdown, but in looking back, it was a really durable car.
I hope you find a good one.

That is great help, Kraven, thank-you.

I may buy one online on Kijiji like I did my last one.
But I WILL check to make sure the car doesn't have any liens on it, that's absolutely a must if I purchase one privately.

Okay, I'll check out what you suggested, K--.
Yes, I know what you mean by on a case by case basis, though some models and makes are known to be very gas efficient, etc..

And I recall that you don't prefer Toyotas--

20 years for a car, oh my! That's a l-o-n-g stretch for a car!
K, you must have doctored it up a fair bit over the 10 years that you owned it, I'd imagine.

If you can afford it check out the new Telsa car. We love our Maza . On My block which is a hill we need four wheel drive.

Okay, I will look up this car. Thanks, Phil.
Mazda CX - 5.

I still don't have a car.

Mazda CX-5, It practically steers itself. It can stop on snow. It really is a driving car.
It is the only car I ever drove that comes close to steering itself. We suffer for year. We needed a four wheel drive car. It is up hill to my house and downhill after. People get stuck. My husband got stuck.

No, we can't afford it Phil, it's way out of my range.

I'm looking at getting a used car but it needs to be good on mileage.

And with the way they plow the roads so sloppily here these days, plus the high snow banks, I would prefer to have a car that sits fairly high off of the ground, higher than the Corolla I had, that is.

What year is your Mazda?
What do you like about it?
4-wheel drive would be a huge plus, but I do always use winter tires during this time of the year.
