I'm sorry to hear that.
This is the second time. I wonder if you should get your inner ear checked too. Infections or damage can cause balance issues.
I sprained my ankle pretty badly several years ago.
At that time, and things may have changed, the Dr. told me to use cold packs until the swelling has completely stopped, and then to use hot packs much later to bring the swelling down.
Don't use hot packs until you're certain the swelling has stopped because they'll make it worse.
I'm not a Dr., so rather than take any advice from me, I'd call your Dr. and ask him or her.
I'd also make an appointment to try to get to the bottom of your balance issue.
I hope the Dr. will have some answers for you.
Oh.... The Dr. actually put a cast on my leg to help to reduce the possibility of further damage while healing.
That might be a good idea for you as well. They have light weight inflatable casts now.
I am glad to hear you're up and around again, though. Maybe your recent inactivity is playing a role too.
