There must be something that regulates those stem cells in 'gators so they don't develop cancers.
Whatever it is, it might not be in the stem cell itself. It could be a protein that some other cell type in the body sends out when stem cells become active.
Maybe when a stem cell becomes active it sends out a chemical signature, which then triggers these other cells to create regulating substances.
We need to learn how to regulate stem cells before we'll be able to use them routinely.
