Well, we read a little about the cavity and mirrors idea in another article not too long ago.
It is important.
One day we'll have quantum computers which will be super fast compared to what we use now.
Not only that but, working on this will teach us more about the quantum world.
As I've mentioned before, I think quantum mechanics will enable us to have real time conversations across vast distances... like space.
If intelligent races are out there having 2 way conversations, they're not using radio.
Which means, if we want in on that dialog, we're going to have to listen and broadcast in the same way that they are.
I think quantum mechanics has the answers.
What we're listening for right now, relatively speaking, are the broadcasts of primitive civilizations... civilizations that could be thousands of light years away.
Meaning, by the time we hear them, they would have already advanced past using radio.
What we hear would have been broadcast thousands of years ago.
Of course we could get lucky and pick up on something very nearby, but even that would mean a difference of several years.
It takes about 5.5 hours just for the Sun's light to reach Pluto; you can imagine how long it would take to reach another system.
