Apparently to Isengard.

Of course, that's just a guess.

Ya know... I haven't watched the whole of any of those movies.

I bought one on sale quite awhile back, but it was messed up and unwatchable.
Since it was on sale (cheap) I didn't bother trying to exchange it.

I do have some old hard cover versions of the books that I bought some 35 or 40 years ago, though. (Back in the 70s)

I found some pictures of the ones I have online.
Ha! They say "Collector's Edition", but they've been saying that about nearly everything printed for about 40 years.

You're probably right.
As with a lot of collectibles, values will spike during a trend, then after the trend is over, either level off or go down a bit, and then climb at a much slower pace from then on.
Plus we now live in a virtual world in which hard copy, old and new, is becoming rarer by the year.

I think their value will only increase, just a hunch.

I hadn't thought so before, but it kind of sounds like it.
The green one (The Hobbit) is in as good a shape as when it was new, and the red one (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) is close to mint condition too.
The gold print on the spine is just slightly faded from handling.

Ha! Whatever they're worth really doesn't matter much.
I have them because I like books.

Besides, their value, whatever that may be, people have a tendency to exaggerate a bit about those things, probably just spiked a bit due to the popularity of the films over the last few years.
When that fades, their value will fade.... And they'll still be on my shelf.

Do you think your copies are worth a fair bit then?

Yikes! Ya got me thinkin' (Dangerous)
Anyway, I wondered what the books were worth.

I found this on Yahoo: "In a perfect world, where these books are in excellent shape (tight spines, clean pages, etc...), still possess their original dust covers in fairly good shape, and are not price clipped, the US edition (published by Houghton Mifflin) should bring between $400-$600. I am not as certain on the UK edition"

And that's a 9 year old posting.
