Isn't it time to stop validating Ignorance?

According to the physicist Lawrence Krauss, author of A Universe From Nothing: Why There is Something Rather than Nothing, the notion that the earth is 6,000 years old, as opposed to 4.55 billion years old, is simply an error, and a very big error indeed. To teach such an error, Krauss says, has consequences. It would be like "teaching kids that the distance across the United States is 17 feet. That’s how big an error it is," Krauss tells Big Think.
I agree you can watch the video at Big Think. If children in the US are taught this nonsense the US will not be able to compete in a world were Science is becoming more fundamental.

The article implies that "Intelligent Design" states that the Earth is only 6,000 years old. That's just not true.
The Bible doesn't even make that claim overtly.
That number was calculated by people that took all the listed generations and ages of the people in the Bible. That's not to say that a teacher of "Intelligent Design" wouldn't teach that, only that the concept of Intelligent Design doesn't depend upon it.
I'm familiar with the something from nothing theory. It's all about entropy.
Entropy is, as far as we know, a Universal rule.
All it really says is, the Universe isn't stagnant.... things are forever changing.
If things are forever changing, then things become more or less than what they were.
That means that if you have perfect order, disorder must follow.
If things are as disordered as possible, order must follow.
Everything in between can go in either direction.... more order, or less order.
The something from nothing theory uses entropy to explain the origin of the Universe.
In other words, if you have everything, when the change occurs, you could only have less, not more, because you started out with everything.
Therefore, they assert, if you have nothing, after the change, you have to have something.... the Universe.
So, they assert, the Universe came to be because a change from nothing can only move in that direction.
There are a lot of holes in that logic.
Time is a "thing". Change can't occur without it. If you have nothing, that includes time, so change can't occur.
Entropy is a rule. If you have nothing, there are no rules.

The "Something from Nothing" theory leaves you asking the same old question... why are these things like entropy, and where did they come from.
While I agree with what he says about teaching science, the theory of something from nothing sounds like it's going somewhere, but in fact, takes you nowhere.
I strongly suspect that Dr. Krauss has been influenced by more than his intellect.
Something from nothing is an awfully long way to go to get to I don't know.

Most American's strongly believe in religionists freedom. What we fear is being forced lto live under the conditions of anyone's religion. We wish to live according our beliefs.
I grew in NYC and befriended people of many faiths and ethniticites. Most people are accepting of each other.
Most people oppose jerks like Ryan and the dumb Right Winger who said, if a women isI raped and impreganted she should not be allowed to abort.
Science helps people to comprend why women should have this choice. Science explains difference between three cells and sentient life.
The Republicans lost because of this issue.

I agree, teaching science is important, and that point is well taken but, guys like Dawkins and Krauss are on a crusade to erase the concept of God and that's not science. Nor is it good for science, anymore than guys like Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell are good for Christianity.
I think we have to be wary of those that have an agenda woven into what they teach, so we don't swallow the agenda along with the rest.

The important point is that Science must be taught to all American children. The Fundamentalist would prefer it was not. That is bad for the US and our Economy. Science will shape our future. If children do not comprehend it we will become a third rate nation like Iran.
Fundamentalist are Fascist. They would teach only their children. Many do not do as they preach.
I think that the point is that all humanity should know Science. People can still believe in any religion. No one can insist we all believe as they do.
The Fundamentalist Christan's, Muslims and everyone must accept this. No one speaks for God.
