The article implies that "Intelligent Design" states that the Earth is only 6,000 years old. That's just not true.
The Bible doesn't even make that claim overtly.
That number was calculated by people that took all the listed generations and ages of the people in the Bible. That's not to say that a teacher of "Intelligent Design" wouldn't teach that, only that the concept of Intelligent Design doesn't depend upon it.
I'm familiar with the something from nothing theory. It's all about entropy.
Entropy is, as far as we know, a Universal rule.
All it really says is, the Universe isn't stagnant.... things are forever changing.
If things are forever changing, then things become more or less than what they were.
That means that if you have perfect order, disorder must follow.
If things are as disordered as possible, order must follow.
Everything in between can go in either direction.... more order, or less order.
The something from nothing theory uses entropy to explain the origin of the Universe.
In other words, if you have everything, when the change occurs, you could only have less, not more, because you started out with everything.
Therefore, they assert, if you have nothing, after the change, you have to have something.... the Universe.
So, they assert, the Universe came to be because a change from nothing can only move in that direction.
There are a lot of holes in that logic.
Time is a "thing". Change can't occur without it. If you have nothing, that includes time, so change can't occur.
Entropy is a rule. If you have nothing, there are no rules.
The "Something from Nothing" theory leaves you asking the same old question... why are these things like entropy, and where did they come from.
While I agree with what he says about teaching science, the theory of something from nothing sounds like it's going somewhere, but in fact, takes you nowhere.
I strongly suspect that Dr. Krauss has been influenced by more than his intellect.
Something from nothing is an awfully long way to go to get to I don't know.
